Random Crime? Not This Home Invasion
Posted on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014
What Placer County residents feared was a random home invasion has been shown to be not so random after all, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Department. After arresting two men and a woman in connection with the robbery, officials learned that one of the suspects had once worked for the male victim and was familiar with the home.
The armed home invasion resulted in the victims, a male and female, being held hostage for about five hours. Fortunately, neither was hurt. After the perpetrators left and the victims freed themselves and called the police, the suspects were apprehended on Interstate 80 in two allegedly stolen vehicles. Juan Jose Guerrero, 33; Lenny Enrique Saldana, 20; and Anna Rita Velasquez, 26, all of Willits, are facing numerous charges after they allegedly duct-taped the residents to chairs, ransacked their home and fled in their two vehicles. At least one of the suspects is also accused of pointing an AK-47 at the victims during the robbery. They have been charged with robbery, burglary, vehicle theft, assault and making criminal threats as well as conspiracy.
Police identified the two vehicles traveling west on Interstate 80 near Roseville. The California Highway Patrol shut down the westbound side of the interstate while they made the traffic stop. One of the men and the woman were arrested on the freeway, while one male was apprehended at a nearby car wash in Roseville. Bail has been set at $200,000 for the two men, while the female is being held on an open Sonoma County warrant. She was also charged with bringing a controlled substance into the jail. However, it does not appear that the three were under the influence of drugs or alcohol when they were arrested.
