Car Crashes into Citrus Heights Yard
A car crashed into a Citrus Heights yard, barely missing a family of three, according to a recent report. Witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle appeared to be speeding when he lost control of the car on Sylvan Road. He veered onto the sidewalk, hitting and knocking over a concrete pillar, then crashing into the yard of a nearby home where the family was inside. The family believes that the concrete pillar absorbed enough of the impact to prevent the car from crashing into the house. Had he done so, the family might have been serious injured or even killed.
The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. Authorities say he will be charged with driving under the influence when he is released from the hospital and will be booked and placed in jail.
DUI With Property Damage/Injuries—A Serious Charge
Every DUI is serious, but when you cause significant property damage or, worse still, injure a bystander or another driver, you face much more serious charges. If you cause an injury, even if it is slight, you can be charged with a felony. If you cause significant property damage, you can also be charged with a felony.
Besides the criminal charges for DUI, you may also face a civil lawsuit for any damages or injuries you cause. You could be liable for monetary damages paid to the victims of a crash. These civil penalties can be much more expensive than the fines associated with a DUI. Whether or not you have insurance coverage, you may be on the hook for thousands of dollars in payments.
One of the most important things you can do after being arrested for DUI, whether you are currently charged or not, is to talk to a DUI attorney. A lawyer who understands DUI law may be able to help you determine the best way to minimize the damage from such a charge.
