Sacramento County Teacher To Be Arraigned For DUI
Posted on Monday, December 29th, 2014
A Sacramento County teacher will face charges of drunk driving in connection with an accident that damaged two residences as well as a water main, according to recent reports. Patricia Robertson, 56, is expected in court to face charges after she crashed into a vehicle and two homes while allegedly driving under the influence on December 4, 2014. Robertson was on her way to work at Earl Warren Elementary when she was involved in the accident. Officers state that her blood alcohol content was nearly three times the .08 percent limit.
Robertson has a previous arrest record for DUI in 2010, but it is unclear what disposition was made of that case. In light of the most recent charges, she has been placed on administrative leave by her school.
DUI Charges in California Can Result In Serious Consequences
DUI charges always result in serious penalties, but the consequences can be even greater if you are employed in a field such as teaching or law enforcement where a morals clause or other condition of employment can cause you to lose your job if you violate DUI rules. While this is a very complicated area of the law, it is clear that certain jobs cause their employees to be vulnerable to this type of problem. If a person in a position of authority and trust is charged with DUI, there can be serious repercussions even if that person is not convicted of the crime or pleads to a lesser charge.
In 2012, there were 803 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in California. That same year, there were 172,345 arrests for DUI in the state. DUI continues to be an important issue for drivers, and every year thousands of them can expect to battle these charges. Consequences can include fines, jail time and other serious penalties, while some people may also be in danger of losing their jobs with a DUI conviction.
