Fatal Motorcycle Crash Involved Semi Truck
A motorcyclist died in a collision involving a semi truck on Interstate 80 according to reports. The 25-year-old was killed when his 2007 Kawasaki Ninja EX500D sideswiped a Dodge Ram then rear-ended a semi. Police estimate that he was traveling between 50 and 60 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
Police reported that traffic had slowed and that the semi was stopped at the time of the collision. The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured in the crash.
Motorcycles Much Less Safe Than Other Vehicles, Statistics Show
While motorcyclists may be safe drivers overall, motorcycles represent a much larger percentage of fatal and injury crashes than other types of vehicles. According to the Insurance Information Institute, 4,957 people died in 2012 as a result of motorcycle crashes and 93,000 were injured. This means that motorcyclists were 26 times more likely to be killed and five times more likely to be injured than the occupants of a car.
There are several reasons that motorcycles are much less safe than passenger cars. One is the relatively exposed position of motorcycle rider and passengers. Another is the lack of safety restraints or airbags on a motorcycle. Finally, the fact that many drivers do not yield as readily to motorcycles as to other types of vehicles may also play a role in the high death and injury rate of motorcyclists.
What Can I Do If I Am Injured In A Motorcycle Crash?
If you are injured in a motorcycle accident, it is important that you recover compensation to pay for your medical bills and other expenses. Most motorcycle accidents result in some degree of injury that requires expensive care and treatment. However, it is unlikely that insurance companies will treat you fairly if you are a motorcycle accident victim. In fact, they may try to blame you for the accident or suggest that you are not eligible to receive compensation because you were riding a motorcycle.
If you have been the victim of a motorcycle crash, you need the legal expertise of an attorney with years of practice in handling motorcycle cases and dealing with insurance companies and others who may wish to deny your claim.
