Pedestrian Killed on Freeport Boulevard

A man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on Freeport Boulevard, according to recent reports.
Sacramento Police spokesman Office Justin Brown said that the accident occurred on the northbound lane of Freeport Boulevard, just north of Meadowview Road. He commented that there are no sidewalks in that area and it is very dark at night.
Around 6 p.m., the unidentified was walking on the roadway and was struck by a teenager. The teen remained at the scene and was said to be cooperating with law enforcement. Alcohol and fog were not believed to be factors in the accident. However, investigators are still trying to determine if excessive speed could have contributed to the crash.
Speeding and Personal Injury
Speeding is a leading contributor to traffic accidents nationwide. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a factor in 33 percent of fatal traffic accidents nationwide in 2012. NHTSA also estimates that 13,000 lives are lost each year due to speeding, while speed-related crashes cost society more than $40 billion annually.
If speeding is so costly and dangerous, why do people do it? Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to that question. Many things may contribute to speeding, including inattention, a false sense of urgency to arrive on time to a destination, or just impatience with others on the road. However, no matter what the driver’s reasons for speeding, it is a crime and may be considered a negligent act.
Someone who has been injured by a speeding driver may be able to collect damages as part of a personal injury lawsuit. Speeding is often cited as evidence of negligence on the part of the at-fault driver. However, even if the other driver was clearly negligent, you may need the help of a personal injury attorney to recover damages.
