One car was pushed onto the sidewalk and front lawn of a nearby home while the other vehicle ended up in the middle of the lane.
One car’s passenger was taken to a local hospital by ambulance complaining of neck pain. The police have not released any information about charges against either drive
Neck Injuries Very Common
Neck injuries are very common, especially after rear-end crashes. In a rear-end collision, the driver and passengers are often thrown both backwards and forwards as conflicting forces act on the vehicle. This can lead to whiplash-type neck injuries that may be more serious than the victims realize at first.
“Whiplash” is a term applied to acceleration-deceleration injuries, or those caused by the sudden, rapid forward and backward motion that is common in car accidents. However, whiplash can also occur under other circumstances such as slip-and-fall accidents.
While not typically life-threatening, whiplash can lead to partial disability over a long period of time. Whiplash injuries are estimated to cost as much as $30 billion per year in the United States due to medical costs, disability, sick leave, lost productivity and litigation expenses.
Common symptoms of whiplash include:
- Neck pain
- Neck stiffness
- Shoulder pain
- Shoulder stiffness
- Arm pain
- Arm weakness
- Back pain
- Tinnitus or ringing in the ears
- Jaw pain or TMJ symptoms
Victims may also experience psychological suffering in the form of post-traumatic stress symptoms. Many victims of car accidents suffer both physical and emotional trauma, especially when they experience whiplash injuries that are difficult to “prove.”
If you are in pain and suffering, but you are having trouble getting an insurance company to believe you, you are not alone. Many victims of whiplash have this same problem. It is a difficult injury to “prove,” so many people believe it is “all in your head.”
However, this is not true. There are ways to show the impact of a whiplash injury. Contact the experienced personal injury attorneys at the Amerio Law Firm in Sacramento for help. We may be able to assist you in “proving” your whiplash injury and collecting damages for your pain and suffering.
