July 4th and The Bankruptcy Process
Posted on Friday, July 3rd, 2015
Wishing you a happy 4th of July this weekend. Please stay safe and enjoy the festivities responsibly. Been thinking a bit about the founding of our country over the past few days. Obviously, the Supreme Court has issued a few decisions that have brought forth a discussion over our Constitution, including what that document means and how we are to interpret it.
Without getting into all that, I think it’s important to note that the right to Bankruptcy has been a part of us since the inception of our country. Right there, in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, the drafters of our Constitution wrote into our founding document access to financial relief.
The reason I bring this up today is that many if not most people I help through the Bankruptcy process carry with them a tremendous amount of guilt resulting from the decision to get out of debt. Most people are not the cause of their own bankruptcy. Job loss, economic collapses and bad luck all result in people not having the means to pay their debt. Bankruptcy is a part of our economy that is expected and planned for in our laws.
Too many people carry with them too much guilt over this decision and end up paying their creditors way too much. Make the decision, that has been embodied in our society since the beginning, to take care of your family first. This weekend should be a celebration of this country. The entire country. Including those of us who are drowning in debt and need financial help. Call us today at (916) 419-1111.
