Time Change for Parking Meters
Posted on Wednesday, September 14th, 2016
If you are a Sacramento resident, then you know of the several locations where you can use the Parkmobile app on your smartphone to “pay for parking sessions at selected parking meters and off-street parking lots within the City of Sacramento” (cityofsacramento.org, 2016). If you don’t, then you do now. What you may not have heard or read online is that parking meters in the downtown area are about to stay active longer into the night. This may come to a surprise to some people, especially if you’ve received a ticket because of the new changes.
Why did they make the change to parking meters? That’s a great question. Tony Bizjak of The Sacramento Bee goes into detail about why they made the parking meter change, what it is in preparation for, and how you can prepare for the new change when parking downtown. For example, as of this past Saturday night (9/3/16), Bizjak wrote, the city extended “parking meter hours to 10 p.m. downtown and 8 p.m. in a slice of midtown” (Tony Bizjak, Sacramento Bee, 2016).
