High Lead Levels Near Mangan Park Gun Range
Posted on Thursday, October 13th, 2016
The Sacramento Bee recently published a news story about “hazardous levels of lead dust” in and around a local gun range. According Ryan Lillis of the Bee, 41 homes were chosen “based on wind models that showed lead dust on the range’s roof [that] may have blown into the yards of those houses” (Lillis, sacbee.com, 2016). The city is going to test lead levels in the yards of many of the homes, which are said to be “far below the California Department of Public Health hazard threshold.” Still, that makes us think of what any amount of firearm discharge is doing to the lungs of the people in the area. What about the children and the babies? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what sort of conditions evolve from this type of environmental contamination.
