It’s DUI Season
Posted on Monday, December 5th, 2016
Every year, people tend to overindulge in the festivities, and many times the consequences are auto accidents and DUI’s. With the number of drunk drivers on the roads during the holidays, one would suspect that being on the road during this time of year would be a dangerous time. Unfortunately, that would prove to be correct according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which suggests a higher volume of holiday travelers combined with a greater number of drinking and driving incidents has the potential to produce twice as many automotive deaths during the holiday season compared to the rest of the year.
Although many studies have published statistics that indicate a low number of drinking and driving auto accident fatalities on Christmas day, that number is greatly contrasted by the high number of fatal auto accidents on Christmas Eve, which is a day when people are more likely to overindulge in alcohol during a holiday party. New Year’s Eve, on the other hand, is the day when an average of more than 42 percent of auto accidents are resulted from drinking and driving. Yet, when it lands on a weekday, that percentage drops significantly. Furthermore, people who don’t normally drink will also engage in the consumption of alcohol, their low tolerance can also affect their driving ability without them knowing, which increases their risk of being involved in an auto accident.
